CASE STUDY: ThyroTest™


ThyroTest™ is a first of its kind rapid in-vitro diagnostic test that allows physicians to detect a patient’s elevated (abnormal) level of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) in 10 minutes.  Elevated levels of TSH are a strong indicator of hypothyroidism which is very treatable if detected early. It is estimated that over 15 million Americans currently suffer from hypothyroidism.  Prior to ThyroTest™, which allows initial screening results to be reported in the same office visit, patient samples would traditionally be sent to a lab where results could take hours and even days to report.

During the final stages of FDA approval, AHP began to take ThyroTest™ through our Market Readiness process.   Market research was conducted to determine the opportunity for such a device within the US physician office laboratory (POL) market.  The research results indicated a significant need for the product and revealed valuable information which proved to be critical in preparing ThyroTest™ for a successful national product launch.

AHP partnered with ThyroTec Inc., the manufacturer of ThyroTest™ to establish a presence in the US market, develop brand positioning, design and manufacture product packaging, develop all sales and marketing support, and launch a successful public relations campaign for ThyroTest™.

During these initial steps of Market Readiness, AHP was simultaneously working a strategic plan for the distribution of ThyroTest™ within the POL market. AHP selected the “1st Choice” national distribution partners in the market by evaluating their current product portfolio, the strength of their field sales capabilities within our target market, their proven success in new product launches and their commitment to the product.

ThyroTest™ is currently being successfully launched in the US POL market and is expected to be one of the most significant new rapid diagnostic products that the market has seen in decades.
